What do I do if an article doesn't have a doi?
Answer
According to the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association:
"For works without DOIs from websites (not including databases), provide a URL in the reference (as long as the URL will work for readers). For works without DOIs from most academic research databases, do not include a URL or database information in the reference because these works are widely availabe"(American Psychological Association, 2020, p. 299).
In other words - if you are getting an academic article from a research journal, and there is no DOI, don't worry about including it. The rest of the citation information included in the reference is intended for someone to be able to find the article if needed.
